How to deal with the menopause

Symptoms, causes, energy and natural remedies explained

Early this week, we celebrated International Women’s Day so we want to focus on a natural process that often starts for women in their 40s and causes some discomfort. However, Jung Shim can help. Let’s look at how to deal with the menopause.

What are the menopause symptoms?

The menopause is often self diagnosed so it’s important to know the different menopause symptoms which may never have been experienced before; hot flushes, anxiety, worry, lack of sleep, insomnia, headaches, extreme moodiness.

What is the average age of the menopause

In the UK, the average age of the menopause is 51. Symptoms can sometimes begin years before your periods stop and last around four years after your last period (although some women experience them for longer).

What causes the menopause?

The menopause is when a women’s ovaries stop releasing eggs and making the hormones estrogen and progesterone. This reduction in estrogen makes symptoms worsen.

Interestingly, women from the eastern hemisphere experience less daunting symptoms than women from the western hemisphere. For example in Japan, there is no word to describe ‘hot flush’. This may be partly down to diet but it may also be down to how they treat energy flow.

How does energy flow affect menopause?

During the menopause, there is a lack of sufficient energy in the kidneys. At Jung Shim, our philosophy is based on eastern principles that promote a steady flow and healthy store of Qi (or chi) energy in our system to maintain the balance of mind, body and spirit.

If estrogen is considered to be yin because it relieves menopausal symptoms and progesterone is yang. During menopause the yang energy and the yin energy can become more imbalanced. The greater the imbalance, the stronger the symptom.

At this time, receiving Chi or Qi can help to rebalance, recharge and reduce symptoms.

Natural remedies for menopause

At Jung Shim, we practice Chunsoo Treatments that have been effective in alleviating menopausal symptoms.

Chunsoo Treatments open the energy system by releasing blockages through pressing acupressure points all over the body to stimulate energy and blood flow. (It is a similar principle to acupuncture but without needles.)

However, it is unique in that a breathing technique is used at the same time to intensify the treatment. This specific sound and vibration is used to open the energy channels and transmit Qi (energy) deeper into the body.

About Jung Shim

The Jung Shim method originated in South Korea more than 40 years ago and it draws on the use of traditional Eastern medicine and Qi (energy) for modern day issues.

The practice helps release blockages, unnecessary thoughts and worries by regaining our connection to our original energy source. In a very busy world where stress, anxiety, depression and fatigue are commonplace, it is seeing huge benefits with people’s emotional health and wellbeing.
